Sterling was engaged by V/Line to complete an engineering assessment of deteriorated concrete substructures for four railway bridges. This included preparing the design and repair specification documents, as well as the methodologies to prolong the service life of these dated assets.
The bridges were inspected by Sterling engineers and material testing was undertaken to identify the symptoms and material properties of the concrete. The laboratory test results identified that the mass concrete piers were severely affected by ASR (Alkali Silica Reaction) and efficient strengthening was required to improve the integrity and service life of the piers. Sterling was engaged to supervise the strengthening works and ensure the work was completed as per the approved drawings and specifications.
