VicTrack delivered on behalf of the Victorian Government a programme of upgrades to stations along the Gippsland Corridor. The upgrades involved improvement to the customer experience, accessibility, safety, and convenience at 4no. stations on the Gippsland Corridor. More specifically, the works included:

  • Car park upgrades with additional spaces and improved safety and security
  • Improved access to platforms with new entry ramps
  • Upgrades to unisex accessible toilets
  • Improvements to coach and bus interchanges, and footpaths
  • Upgrades to ticket counters.

Sterling was engaged by VicTrack as Accessibility Consultants to review all accessible components of these packages through the various design stages. Sterling also took part in the Safety in Design Workshop and was integral in the stakeholder engagement process.

Sterling reviewed and commented on the design packages ensuring comments were addressed through all drawing package revisions. Individual drawings were checked against The Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport and the series of AS1428 standards using detailed checklists to ensure designs complied with the objectives of the Disability Discrimination Act.
Finally, Sterling conducted field audits following completion of construction works to ensure all accessibility features had been built to drawings Issued for Construction and relevant Accessibility specifications.
