As the Design Manager, Mehdi brings to Sterling a high level of technical capability in bridge design/assessment. He has managed and led numerous new design bridges and culverts (rail and road) including the design of the composite deck, concrete battle deck, steel trough deck, box/pipe culverts, and crash protection beams in addition to the underground gas main/water main pipes as well as acting as a 3rd party approver when the design is completed by others.
Mehdi has more than 15 years of work experience in the civil and structural engineering sector. He joined Sterling in 2016 and during his employment period, he has conducted numerous load ratings of complex bridges (steel, concrete, composite, masonry, truss) including fatigue assessment. As part of the strengthening design, he put his technical excellence to propose the constructible and cost-effective solution for remedial works. He has proposed strengthening design for bridges with heritage significance to not only comply with design codes but also to incorporate the heritage requirements. The CFRP strengthening design for concrete bridges with ASR affected piers, steel superstructure, masonry abutment/piers as well as signal mast/ overhead strengthening design are only part of his remedial design activities. He is an expert in Finite Element (FE) analysis using Abaqus and Stand7 when complex modelling is required to come up with a design solution.
Mehdi holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering and a PhD in Structural Engineering. He also is a Registered Building Practitioner (RBP), Registered Professional Engineers Queensland (RPEQ) and National Engineer Register (NER). Mehdi is a Chartered Professional Engineer.
